THE SWISS ARMY KNIFE OF PORTABLE RADIOS
The Skywave SSB 2 has wide and accurate band coverage in a small size which makes it an excellent travel and emergency radio. Single Side Band is a reliable way to get long range information after an earthquake or hurricane, when normal communications are down. The SSB tuning is accurate to 10 Hertz resolution. It also covers civilian aviation VHF with 10 aviation memories that can continuously scan for activity. It also covers AM/FM and Weather with Alert.
The Skywave SSB 2 has several improvements: The new Shortwave antenna jack can significantly improve SW reception when used with an external antenna. The new micro-USB connector now works well from any USB port along with improved in-circuit battery charging for optional “AA” NiMH rechargeable batteries. Other upgrades include a higher quality speaker along with slightly more audio amplification. Longer feet on the bottom of the radio for better stability.

Please note: When using headphones or earbuds there is an easily discernable, but not loud “pop” when switching bands and on memory presets on airband. There is no pop when using the speakers. It will take time to find the hardware and software remedy. It will not be corrected on this first shipment but we are working it and expect it to be reduced on future shipments.

A great radio for traveling or just staying at home

A very sensitive multi band radio that adds Weather to the air channel AM, FM, short wave and single side band. It may be pricier than some of the other radios but if you’d like to travel as well as set up at home quickly with a real antenna, this is your radio.
Lot of features in a small package.

Radio was received well packaged and undamaged. Ordering was easy and the price better than anyone else I could find. I will definitely be back to Solid Signal for future orders. I would recommend this radio if you are after a good quality SW with all these features though you can saved a fair bit if you give up SSB, WX, fq range, etc. Cons Screen not visible at angles. Kick stand needs more positions Can't charge while in use this includes weather alerts Not water resistant at all. Use a ziplock, etc Cant keep backlight on when not "ac" powered USB powered introduces a lot of noise Pros Good battery life Runs on NiMH and will charge via micro usb when “not in use” Very compact Excellent amber display Excellent button, knob, etc, quality Excellent lithography Decent speaker Includes: Reel antenna 3.5mm antenna adapter Headphones Protective case Good tether
